Touching moment .....
As I was watching the tamil movie 'Kandukonden Kandukonden' in Sun TV yesterday, my eyes were filled with tears! It is because of the mention of IPKF. Even though I watched this movie several times before I never had the same emotional reaction I had today. I was especially moved with Mammooty's dialogue how painful it was when no one at the Madras harbour to receive them when they came back from Sri Lanka. No one talks about IPKF now-a-days but we can't forget the 1000+ soldiers who lost their life fighting LTTE. It was a shame on the then Indian government headed by VP Singh and TN government headed by Karnanidhi. No government representative was there to receive them when they came back from Sri Lanka. The selfish Tamil Nadu politicians who in the name of supporting tamils in Sri Lanka accused the Indian army with genocide and bad mouthed them for several months during the conflict. The bitter conflict took more than 1000 Indian soldiers life including Major Parameswaran who was later awared Param Vir Chakra! Not to forget, we lost one of our former PM because of this conflict. As I was thinking about IPKF while watching the movie, I searched in YouTube and found this video. It is a dedication to those forgotten soldiers! Also, this one I found in India Today.
AN ANSWER TO THE ABOVE ARTICLE POSTED BY A PERSON CALLED MADRAS 43
First of all one should understand that an accord was signed between Mr.Rajiv Gandhi and Jayavardhanae which is a great blunder. Accord should have beed signed only between 2 fighting groups and not with one group and a mediater. Since Rajiv Gandhi was a pilot and had no basic knowledge or experience in these kind of administration, he and the srilankan together signed a pact to destroy Tamils in the name of "more power to tamils".
One should remember that Rajiv Gandhi once insulted LTTEs as "After all 2000 boys". Nobody dared to say that but the former pilot went on to say that....!!!
Moreover The LTTE believed IPKF - the so called "peace keepers" and handedover their weapons in front of the Indian officers(some by throwing away, others by kissing the weapons and laying it off etc.,). One might remember that the news were shown every single day on Doordarshan in those days...and a News reporter named Thirunavkkarasu(a person with burnt face) passing comments about it...After getting back almost all the weapons from the LTTE the Srilankan soldiers started to fight with the Tamils and the IPKF came in support of the Srilankans. This naturally irritated the LTTE and the Tamils and started fighting with both IPKF and Srilankan Soldiers. During this time only many Indian soldiers died. The North Indian soldiers were accused of raping the Tamils which is a war crime. The South Indian soldiers had to protect the Tamils from both Srilankan armys and the North Indian IPKFs. This upset the politicians in TN and started asking the IPKF to stop fighting with the Tamils and instead help achieving the Tamil Eelem. Hence DMK chief did not have interest to invite IPKF only for this reason, in fact no politician was interested to invite IPKF in this situation for that matter. In the meantime an idiot named Gopalasamy(vaiko) from DMK (now MDMK) went to Mullaitheevu illegally and that triggered the use of article 356 of the Indian constitution. Even the governor of TN (Mr.Barnala) did not accept to sign the dissolving of TN (DMK)Govt - A person called Venkataraman(recently dead) was occupying the President of India post who used a clause "otherwise" and dissolved the DMK govt. The brave TN Governor Mr.Barnala who refused to accept the idea of dissolving the TN Govt for no genuine reason was removed from office and a Congress man named Bishma Narayan Singh was appointed as TN Governor. During his tenure and Venkataraman as President of India, Mr.Rajiv Gandhi visited TN for Election Campaign by flying his plane from Orrisa himself - but got murdered at Sriperambudur. The surprising thing we should understand is Mr.Rajiv Gandhi visited TN around 13 times during Karunanidhi's Government and went back to Delhi Safely in one piece - but thrown to pieces only during Bishma Narayan Singh's(congress man) rule which is a president's rule(also a congress man). At this time the Congress and the ADMK were in election ties and that led to fight with a common enemy the DMK by terming that it was LTTE and DMK together killed Rajiv Gandhi.
The properties of the DMK were destroyed and the DMK's election van was burnt and lot more atrocities were unleashed by ADMK men.
Days passed and an enquiry was appointed by the then central government and then it went on for about 7 to 8 yrs of enquiry and the DMK came out with a clean chit.So in this history one should not forget that only MGR/Jayalalitha supported LTTE very much by giving arms and aminities, war practices along with Indira Gandhi at the center.
The DMK did not do much help to LTTE Because it was in power for just 2 years during 1989-90. But MGR and Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi did it (Jayalalitha also given an interview in "The Hindu" said that "the DMK did not do much help to LTTE than MGR).
So the person who posted the article "Touching Moment...." need not compare a cinema with a real life ongoing tamils slaughter by a Srilankan Butcher.
Nobody invites an enemy even if he is a relative. The IPKF did much damages to the Tamils in the name of "Peace Keepers" and hence DMK chief was not in a mood to invite somebody who killed his own Kith and kin - afterall he is the saviour if world Tamils.
